The Full Story

About John P. Schmitz

 

John was born in Methodist Hospital September 13th, 1961 and resides in the Mars Hill neighborhood of Indianapolis, Indiana.

 

Education: Perry Meridian HS (College prep), Ball State University (BS Graphic Design), University of the Rockies (MA Psychology).

 

John owns and operates Old School Construction, LLC. which performs design build construction projects specializing in masonry.  His past work experience consists of paper boy, dish washer, laborer, bricklayer, superintendent, project manager, developer, builder, utility owner, realtor, artist, licensed minister, substitute teacher, truck driver, and camp counselor is work John has done.

 

John and his wife, Lisa, are founders of the Mars Hill Arts Center and live in the Mars Hill neighborhood. They are also founders of the Mars Hill Community Connect neighborhood group.  Regularly attends Charity Church in Mars Hill.  John performs weddings and funerals upon request.  John serves with “Meet Me Under the Bridge'' (a homeless outreach group) in the ACLU parking lot each Sunday at 3pm.

 

John ran track at Ball State University and was a bronze medalist in the Mid-American Conference championships and letterman.  Cycling accomplishments include a bronze medal at the National Masters track championships.  Local cycling accomplishments are Indiana Track State champion, Indiana Criterium State champion, and Mass Ave Crit champion in the master’s categories. 

 

John is a Precinct Committeeman and State Delegate as well as a candidate for the Indiana House of Representatives District 97.  He is currently working with the city and county counsel to improve the building permitting process in the city of Indianapolis.
